Today’s Special: Lovin’ The Internet

In Feature by Nya3 Comments

Welcome to my first Today’s Special, my personal space to talk about whatever I feel like, as long as it’s book related. Finally, November, the NaNoWriMo’s month is coming to an end (more about it on my next Writing Diaries), this means I will have more time to this type of ‘almost-personal’ posts. Today’s topic: Lovin’ The Internet, we will be talking about some interesting websites / apps I’ve found related to, of course, reading and writing.

Morning Short sends one famous short story to your inbox each morning! Yes, that’s it, it’s completely free, and you can even chose the audio option if you’d rather listen to your morning story. Pretty cool, isn’t it? I think! Thanks to them, I have been reading lots of short stories. You’ll get to read many classics, but who doesn’t love a good classic?

Another good option for your daily short fiction fix, but this one most of you know already, is Daily Science Fiction. I am loving their stories too. The service is free, and you can submit your own stories too – and then just ‘pray’ to get accepted.

Another interesting thing to read online is An Illustrated Book of Bad Arguments – the name says it all, and I think it was very well done – and relatable.

Writing & Blogging

Adobe Slate is free now. But Nya, what the hell is Adobe Slate? It’s a fancy tool that lets you create a fancy page for your story / essay / project / report / book promotion / etc. Here’s an example of a page done with the tool. Looks so pretty and clean, doesn’t it? And it’s extremely easy to use. So, what will you be using it for, Nya? I don’t know, ok? I just know it looks cool. It will be useful, eventually.

Pro Writing Aid – You probably have heard about this one already – but it helps you to improve the readability of your work. Of course, like everything else that relies on automation, all suggestions are to be taken with a grain of salt – specially if  you are making use of literary and creative freedom. I still think it’s a nice tool though, it definitely helps – and I am only using the free version.

First Draft – I mentioned this one already on my writing diaries, and it definitely taught me a lesson in practical terms. So for those of us that can’t get past the first draft, no deleting allowed! Give it a try if you’re stuck, it’s free. (Mac only)

And that’s it for today. The good news is that I will be finally posting new reviews next week. I will also be writing about my first NaNoWriMo experience. Meanwhile, if you have any other suggestions, feel free to leave me a message / comment.

Enjoy your week.
